For those of you with kids, a new show is coming to Netflix Junior that aims to expand your child’s mind in the best of ways!

Executive producers Barack and Michelle Obama team up with award-winning producer and writer Chris Nee to bring Ada Twist, Scientist to life, based on the bestselling book of the same name.

Showrunner Chris Nee is best known as the creator of the award-winning Doc McStuffins. Nee has been in the entertainment industry as a kids show writer for 20 years with notable titles under her belt such as Blues Clues, The Backyardigans and Vampirina.

In recent years, Chris Nee has found a home at Netflix as a creator and producer of kids televisionWe the Peoplealso executive produced by the Obamas, made waves as a modern version of Schoolhouse Rock! featuring the talents of Janelle Monáe, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Adam Lambert among others.

What is the original book Ada Twist, Scientist about?

The show is based on the book Ada Twist, Scientist written by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts. This picture book (part of a STEM series) received incredible praise when released in 2016 and was a No. 1 bestseller for New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal.

Ada Twist, Scientist was even read in Story Time From Space! Here’s their synopsis for the book:

The original book Ada Twist, Scientist tells the story of curious child Ada Marie. She asks why, what, how and when as she tries to figure out the world around her. By second grade, her questions evolve into experiments that are hard for her teachers and parents to control.

When her experiments go too far, Ada’s parents’ first reaction is to shut down her questions. Instead, they decide to indulge her passion for science and help her discover the answers.

The Netflix Junior show stars Ada Twist (scientist), Rosie Revere (engineer) and Iggy Peck (architect) as best friends on a mission to solve mysteries with science. The series will expand the world from the book collection while keeping the same tone and values.

"Pint-sized scientist Ada Twist and her two best friends are asking big questions — and working together to discover the truth about everything!"

Ada Twist, Scientist aims to teach young children life lessons and the importance of “why” in a fun, musical way. The show educates kids on the magic of science, technology, math and engineering with a focus on imagination.

You can already watch a few episodes on the Netflix Jr YouTube channel, although the series won’t be released on their streaming platform until Sept. 28.
