The Sandman series release date predictions, cast, first look video, and more

The works of Neil Gaiman have translated into successful live-action series like Amazon’s Good Omens, Netflix’s Lucifer, and Starz’s American Gods. Now Netflix will be getting in on all the Gaiman glory with a new series called The Sandman.

In July 2016, Deadline confirmed that Netflix would be moving forward with the series based on Gaiman’s DC Comic from Warner Bros. TV. Gaiman is set to executive produce along with David Goyer, who has worked on several other DC properties, including The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, and Krypton, just to name a few. Allan Heinberg, whose credits include Wonder Woman and Grey’s Anatomy, will be the showrunner for The Sandman series and serve as its writer.

The Netflix original series was slated to begin production in May 2020, but the Coronavirus pandemic delayed those efforts. In the meantime, an Audible version of The Sandman, which utilized the vocal talents of such acting powerhouses as Riz Ahmed and James McAvoy, had been released, raising the anticipation for the Netflix series to an all-time high.

Neil Gaiman announced via his Twitter account that they had begun shooting on October 15, 2020, while also revealing that casting announcements will soon follow.

Now that Netflix subscribers know production is bacon, the question on everyone’s mind is when The Sandman series release will be?

The Sandman release date predictions

There is no official word on when Netflix subscribers should make their calendars for the arrival of The Sandman series.

Based on the fact that shooting began in October 2020, it does feel safe to assume that sometime in late 2021 or 2022 would be a good estimation of the earliest chances it could premiere. However, Netflix is hosting their virtual event TUDUM this afternoon on Sept. 25, 2021, and although they featured a slot for The Sandman, they did not reveal the release date.

As we’re entering the final moments of 2021, we now don’t think the series will come out this year. If it was, we’d think the release date would be announced at TUDUM. Of course, this isn’t confirmation The Sandman isn’t coming in 2021, but just a prediction.

While fans may be in the dark about when they can binge The Sandman series, Gaiman did reveal how many chapters they’ll get to enjoy when it arrives.

Netflix has had prior success with Gaiman-inspired work and hopes that The Sandman series will have the same success that lucifer has seen since moving to stream service. While everyone waits for news on when The Sandman will visit the small screen, they can relive the comics series, the audible version, or revisit every Lucifer season from start to finish.

The Sandman possible synopsis

There has been no official synopsis released for The Sandman series, but fans of the epic content have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the Netflix original series.

The famous story centers on Death’s brother Morpheus’s adventures, who was imprisoned for many years and finally made his escape. He then embarks on a quest to retrieve the stolen artifacts that were taken from him and take back his power.

Neil Gaiman sat down with Digital Spy to discuss when this take will begin and shared a bit of information about how the Netflix version will entail.

“We’re working with Netflix, we were meant to start shooting at the end of May. Given this COVID world, everything is on pause. The Netflix version is going to begin in 2021, so Morpheus will have been kept prisoner in the Netflix version for 105 years rather than 70 years…”

There is a lot of excitement for this The Sandman series, and fans are very eager to see what the Netflix original will have in store once it finally arrives.
