Will there be a Hubie Halloween 2?

Hubie Halloween — starring comedy icon Adam Sandler and Modern Family’s Julie Bowen — was an instant hit when it premiered on Netflix in 2020! So with the spooky season nearly upon us, it’s no surprise that now a year on since its release, many are wondering whether we’ll be (trick or) treated this year to a hilarious sequel. So is Hubie Halloween 2 happening? Here’s everything we know about Hubie Halloween 2!

What is Hubie Halloween about?

For those unfamiliar, Hubie Halloween told the story of an “eponymous local outcast who takes it upon himself to keep the townsfolk of Salem, Massachusetts safe” from an evil murdering mastermind ruining the spooky season.

Currently, of course, there isn’t an official synopsis released by Netflix for Hubie Halloween 2. But from the official Netflix synopsis for the first film, we can safely assume, that we could be back in Salem to investigate a new murder during Halloween with Hubie Dubois if there is a sequel. The first film synopsis reads:

"“It’s October 31st in Salem, Massachusetts, and a town’s eccentric, devoted community volunteer and the good-natured object of his fellow citizen’s derision and meanest pranks, finds himself in the midst of a real investigation, for a real murderer.”"

Is Hubie Halloween 2 happening in 2021?

While many had hoped that the Halloween-themed comedy movie would get a sequel in 2021, it looks like that won’t be the case. In fact, as of September 2021, there doesn’t appear to be any plans for Hubie Halloween 2, despite Netflix announcing last year that they’d extended their partnership with Adam Sandler’s production company Happy Madison.

However, we’re still holding out hope! After all, one of the other collaborations between Sandler and Netflix, Murder Mystery — starring Jennifer Aniston — which was released in 2019 is getting a sequel, and that has been kept fairly quiet, with IMDb only updating the sequel information last month, stating that Murder Myster 2 had entered “pre-production” on Aug. 18.

Following the release of Hubie Halloween, reports claimed back in October 2020 that a follow-up to the horror-comedy pic was “already in the early stages of development” so it might be that Netflix and Sandler are just keeping things quiet for a surprise announcement in 2022. Fingers crossed that it’s the case!

Hubie Halloween release date predictions

While as mentioned there’s still no confirmation on a sequel, we can still take a guess as to when we could potentially see the sequel to the hilarious Halloween film. We predict that Hubie Halloween 2 will be released sometime in October 2022, but, bear in mind that this is just a prediction! Until Netflix announces an official sequel and release date, everything is just speculation.
