Thankfully, mystery movies and shows come in all different shapes and sizes. They don’t always have to be dark, twisted stories mired in murder, as much as many of us enjoy a good chill from time to time. But sometimes, mysteries can come in the form of a comedy, like the Coen Brothers film Hail, Caesar!, a comical dip back into Old Hollywood for a fictional on-set mystery.

Hail, Caesar! stars Josh Brolin as Hollywood fixer Eddie Mannix, who’s tasked with putting out fire for the various stars and filmmakers at Capitol Pictures. However, in the midst of his latest assignment, Mannix finds himself embroiled in a challenging situation when Baird Whitlock (George Clooney) gets kidnapped while filming the biblical epic Hail, Caesar!

Through celebratory satire of 1950s Hollywood, Hail, Caesar! and its aces cast hit all the right notes. While it may not be the super-engrossing mystery you’re accustomed to, the humor more than makes up for the gritty twists and turns you might be missing. The film holds an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and landed a sole Academy Award nomination for its production design. Don’t miss out on one of the funniest mystery movies on Netflix.
