Foundation, the latest epic sci-fi series to appear on television premieres Sept. 24. Adapted from the sprawling series from writer Issac Asimov, Foundation hopes to transform itself into the next watercooler show everyone talks about.

Jared Harris stars in this epic along with Lee Pace, also known for his role in Halt and Catch Fire, which is available on Netflix, and Lou Llobell. Created by David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman, Foundation once was labeled as “unfilmable” due to its story that spans over 1,000 years. This made the book series almost impossible to adapt to the big screen. By choosing to create a TV series, which Goyer plans as an 80-episode project, the story can remain true to its roots.

Although the series plans to follow the source material, some changes have occurred. This includes introducing new concepts and reworking the characters to include female cast members, as the source material was mainly male-dominated.

Filled with a multitude of plot lines and the galactic scale of the series, many are comparing it to Game of Thrones. The amount of plot that series had made its adaptation close to impossible, too. Time will tell whether or not Foundation can follow in those footsteps, but with a stellar cast, and grand premise, it is off to a good start.

Foundation’s premise is described as, “The chronicles of a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the galactic empire.”

Is Foundation on Netflix?

Unfortunately, fans of Foundation will have to watch elsewhere as the series is not on Netflix. With the series exclusive to Apple TV+, it is unlikely for the show to appear on the streaming service anytime in the near future, if at all.

Where to watch Foundation

The new sci-fi series premieres Sept. 24 and is available for streaming on Apple TV+ with a subscription. The first two episodes are set to be released together, with future episodes subsequently airing each following Friday.
