In the past year, the world has once again become enamored with the personal life of Grammy Award winning pop icon Britney Spears. On the heels of Framing Britney Spears, Netflix will soon unveil its own documentary, aptly titled Britney vs Spears.

Much like the New York Times doc that streams on Hulu, the Britney Spears Netflix documentary will also explore the pop star’s 13-year conservatorship of her person and estate as controlled by her father, Jamie Spears. The documentary will be released ahead of her next court hearing.

Britney vs Spears was directed by documentary filmmaker Erin Lee Carr and has said to be in the works since before FX and Hulu’s aforementioned groundbreaking doc, which blew the lid off of the conservatorship and put the spotlight on the abuses of power severely at play on multiple levels.

While the #FreeBritney movement rages on as the beloved pop star fights for her freedom, the next chapter of the story will be told in Britney vs Spears on Netflix, and the documentary will be coming to our watch lists in September 2021.

Britney vs Spears release date on Netflix

According to Variety, Britney vs Spears will be released on Netflix on Tuesday, Sept. 28, which is one day before Britney’s next court hearing about the conservatorship on Sept. 29. The doc will start streaming at 12:01 a.m. PT and 3:01 a.m. ET.

Even though we weren’t expecting Netflix to release the documentary in September, much less in 2021 at all, the rush to drop the film will hopefully further help the public’s understanding of the complicated battle as well as aiding in the necessity of calling the conservatorship into question.

Britney vs Spears trailer

Along with the announcement of the impending release of the documentary, Netflix released an 18-second clip of a voicemail Britney Spears left for a lawyer back in the beginning of her conservatorship. Listen to the clip in the tweet below.

The streamer will released the first official full-length trailer for Britney vs Spears on Sept. 22, which will finally gave fans insight on what to expect from the new look at the star’s life. It’s not expected that Britney or any of the Spears family will appear in the new doc.

The trailer promises “no more secrets” and “no more lies” as Britney’s own 2021 court testimony narrates the clips, interviews and investigation into her conservatorship. If Framing Britney Spears told the world what was going on, this one shouts it from the rooftops.

Don’t miss Britney vs Spears on Netflix when it premieres on Sept. 28.
