The Eyes of Tammy Faye premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 12 to a lot of buzz and hype from critics. Based on the 2000 documentary of the same name by directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, the latest version directed by Michael Showalter stars Jessica Chastain in the leading role of Tammy Faye Bakker. Other cast members include Vincent D’Onofrio as Jerry Falwell, Andrew Garfield as Jim Bakker, and Gabriel Olds as Pat Robertson.

The movie follows the standard biopic structure and shows Jessica Chastain transforming into the role of Tammy Faye Bakker with detailed makeup and wardrobe choices. The Eyes of Tammy Faye seeks to tell her side of the story and show the compassionate, heartfelt side that fans of her have come to know and love over the years.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye chronicles Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker as they rise from ordinary people to the founders of the world’s largest religious broadcasting network, PTL, and theme park, Heritage USA. The film then transitions into covering the financial scandals that rocked their world and threatened the religious empire.
