Lynyrd Skynyrd was originally formed in 1964 as My Backyard. They would tour under several different names and lineup changes for five years until settling on Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1969. A plane crash in 1977 in which several band members’ lives were lost would halt the band until 1987.
This band is known for the songs “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Freebird” and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
