Netflix is unquestionably one of the most-watched streaming services on the planet, but does it make its subscribers watch annoying advertisements?

The battlefield for the streaming wars has gotten very crowded, with many of the major players having several options when it comes to which plan to pledge allegiance to on the particular streamer. HBO Max, Paramount+, Peacock, Hulu, and more all have premium options that offer an ad-free experience but also have a cheaper alternative with advertisements.

One of the many benefits of cord-cutting is the lack of annoying commercials. So for those that wish to not experience that nonsense, there are several options out there, like Disney Plus, for instance, that don’t push ads.

Netflix has a lot to offer its subscribers, like a great library of entertaining licensed content as well as a plethora of amazing original titles such as Money Heist, Stranger Things, and Into the Night, just to name a few. The question that remains is whether or Netflix also has ads in the mix or on the agenda?

Are there ads on Netflix?

There are no ads on Netflix. The streamer does not have advertisements on its platform. However, it does allow previews of content to be seen before viewing and feature content on the opening screen after logging in. They also show trailers and previews for trending or relevant material during the credits of the previously enjoyed content.

But will this be the way Netflix operates forever? One of the reasons the streamer remains one of the dominant forces in the world of streaming is the fact that it is a commercial-free environment. But now that Apple, Disney, HBO, Amazon, and more continue to gain traction, and are constantly looking to dethrone the platform that started it all.

It doesn’t seem like there are any plans for the powerhouse to move away from its current ad-free business model. In a statement to The New York Times, Netflix said that being commercial-free remains a deep part of their brand proposition.

"“We believe we will have a more valuable business in the long term, by staying out of competing for ad revenue and instead entirely focusing on competing for viewer satisfaction.”"
