Is a Bones revival happening?
By Reed Gaudens
In this day and age of pop culture nostalgia hitting its peak, there’s no telling which shows from yesteryear could be coming back for a reboot, revival or remake. The past few years have brought back Saved by the Bell and Gossip Girl in some form, but is a Bones revival next?
Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz starred in the Fox procedural dramedy Bones for the duration of its 12 seasons. Deschanel played Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan, a forensic anthropologist who works alongside FBI agent Seeley Booth (Boreanaz) to solve cases by studying the human remains, a.k.a. bones, of murder victims.
Bones first premiered on Fox in September 2005 and ended its incredible run of 246 episodes in March 2017. For the most part, the series seems to have left no bone un-investigated, but you never know how the winds of nostalgia will blow these days.
During Lucifer season 6, a potential Bones revival got a shout out a couple times in the final 10 episodes, which might leave some Bones fans wondering if the series is actually staging a comeback. So, can we expect a Booth and Brennan reunion anytime soon?
Will there be a Bones revival?
Unfortunately, Bones doesn’t appear to have a revival in the works at this time. Boreanaz, who currently stars in the CBS series SEAL Team, has stated that he doesn’t prefer to “look back” when it comes to his projects, while Deschanel said she thought it was “too soon” to return to her role.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that a Bones revival, movie or reunion of some sort will never happen in the future, but it’s just not in the cards right now. Both stars are attached to other projects and have 12 seasons of fan-favorite television under their belts together.
Lucifer season 6 joked about a Bones revival as a means to poke fun at Fox, the shows previous home, one last time, but Lucifer also found himself rewatching Bones later in the season. Although Lucifer and Bones fans wouldn’t mind a new iteration, it’s not happening right now.
On the reboot, revival, spin-off, etc. front, keep your eyes open for Sex and the City to make a comeback with And Just Like That on HBO Max and a new version of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to come to Peacock soon. Surely, there’s more where those came from, too.
