Sex Education season 3 is coming to Netflix very soon. As of Sept. 7, we now have the official trailer and fans are getting hyped about what’s to come for our favorite characters at Moordale Secondary School!
Since it premiered on Netflix in 2019, Sex Education has delighted fans with its complex characters, fantastic writing, and the ability to tell intricate stories about sex with humor and respect. Season 2 was released in its entirety in Jan. 2020, and the season finale left fans off with a huge cliffhanger. Now, everyone’s wondering about Sex Education season 3.
Season 2 included storylines that were unexpected and touching, and I can’t wait to see what season 3 of Sex Education has in store.
Sex Education season 3 release date
After what will be a 20-month hiatus, Sex Education will finally return for its third season on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021!
The news was confirmed by Netflix on June 24 timed to the release of the official season 3 synopsis — more on that to come! — and our first look at the new season.
A September return date is somewhat earlier than originally anticipated as it starting to look as though we’d have to wait until October for the next season of the series. Fortunately, it seems Netflix had other plans and will be releasing the series right before the end of summer.
Sex Education season 3 synopsis
Season 2 of Sex Education was a wild ride. Otis (Asa Butterfield) and Maeve’s (Emma Mackey) sex clinic operation was put in jeopardy when Moordale hired Jean (Gillian Anderson) to help the student population after a chlamydia outbreak.
Otis tried to navigate his new relationship with Ola (Patricia Allison) while coming to terms with the scope of his feelings for Maeve.
The season culminated with Otis leaving Maeve a voicemail confessing his love, only for Maeve’s neighbor Isaac (George Robinson) to delete the message. Lily (Tanya Reynolds) and Ola began dating, and so did Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and Adam (Connor Swindells). Jean also found out she was pregnant.
And it sounds like season 3 will be dealing with the fallout of all these events! Here’s how Netflix officially describes the upcoming season:
“It’s a new year, Otis is having casual sex, Eric and Adam are official, and Jean has a baby on the way. Meanwhile, new headteacher Hope (played by Jemima Kirke) tries to return Moordale to a pillar of excellence, Aimee discovers feminism, Jackson gets a crush and a lost voicemail still looms. Prepare for commitment animals, alien phenomena, vulva cupcakes and much more of Madam Groff.”
Sex Education season 3 cast
Sex Education stars Asa Butterfield as Otis Milburn, an awkward teenager with an astounding amount of sexual health information. Ncuti Gatwa plays Eric Effiong, Otis’ hilarious best friend. Emma Mackey portrays Maeve Wiley, a social outcast and Otis’ partner in crime. Gillian Anderson portrays Dr. Jean F. Milburn, Otis’ mother, and a sex therapist.
The series also features the talents of Connor Swindells, Kedar Williams-Stirling, Aimee Lou Wood, Chinenye Ezeudu, Patricia Allison, Tanya Reynolds, and Mikael Persbrandt.
Netflix announced there are three new actors joining the cast in season 3, including Jason Isaacs, Jemima Kirke and Dua Saleh.
Isaacs is playing Peter Groff, the older brother of the Headmaster at Moordale. I guess that also makes him Adam’s uncle.
Kirke will play Hope, the new Headmistress at Moordale, and Saleh plays Cal, a student that gets into it with Hope.
Sex Education season 3 trailer
Feast your eyes on the trailer below and prepare to get excited!
Apparently, Otis is getting a new look with his mustache and is still in his will-they, won’t-they stage with Maeve. Hope is making a ton of changes at the school, and Adam and Eric are getting hot and heavy. It looks like Otis will have some awkward moments with Isaac as they both continue to pursue Maeve. I absolutely cannot wait to watch Sex Education season 3!
Previously, we got to see a teaser trailer for the third season. It doesn’t feature much footage from season 3, if any, but we do get to meet the new headmistress, Mrs. Hope Haddon, played by Jemima Kirke.
They have also gifted fans with a fun video featuring Alistair Petrie, who plays Headmaster Groff in Sex Education.
Although it doesn’t include any new footage from next season, it does, however, feature several other works of art. It looks like the cast and crew of Sex Education just want to remind fans that the series will return. Take a look!
