Stranger Things season 4 is coming to Netflix in 2022. The streaming network confirmed that news in August 2021 in a 30-second promo that ran during the Olympics.

While it’s a big bummer that we have to wait until 2022 to watch Stranger Things season 4, it might not be all bad news.

There are a bunch of rumors that Stranger Things season 4 will be longer than the third season. It’s not by much, but at this point, we’ll take ANY “extra” episodes of Stranger Things.

This is still one of the best shows of the streaming era and most iconic shows of all time.

The first season of Stranger Things consisted of eight episodes, and so did the third season. Season 2, on the other hand, was nine episodes. So, it’s not entirely unprecedented that Stranger Things season 4 would be nine episodes, as well.

The rumors all started when the Stranger Things Writers Twitter account tweeted a stack of scripts to announce the full season was finished. It was hard to tell, but it sure looked like there were nine scripts in the image, which would indicate that there are nine episodes in the new season.

Throw in the recent tweets from Stranger Things fan accounts and the extended production on Stranger Things season 4, and it’s not surprising that fans think there are nine episodes in the latest season.

While Netflix has not announced there will be nine episodes in Stranger Things season 4, it sure seems like that there will be nine episodes in the new season. For all the reasons listed above!

It would be really easy for Netflix to shoot down these rumors by announcing the Stranger Things season 4 episode titles or count, like they have done in the past. That could be on the way in September 2021 when Stranger Things is featured during Netflix’s TUDUM event on Sept. 25.

Netflix hasn’t shot down those rumors yet, so we have to believe there’s an additional episode planned for Stranger Things season 4.

On top of all the other reasons listed, TV Line reported that there were rumors that Stranger Things season 4 would be nine episodes. One of those episodes will also be an origin story about a fan-favorite character.

We’ll have to wait until Netflix makes the official announcement about the episode count. Hopefully, the release date is announced soon!
