We love to see movies and TV shows that showcase representation and diversity, and Netflix has been making its mission to show stories about people from all walks of life. To All the Boys: Always and Forever, On My BlockAtypical and Family Reunion are all great Netflix originals that show representation in the right way. This makes you think about if they added Coda to their list.

Coda is a coming-of-age movie that tells the story of a hearing teenage girl (Ruby) raised by parents who are deaf and her dilemma of wanting to attend a prestigious music school but not sure if she should because she’d be abandoning her family and their fishing business.

The film stars Locke and Key‘s Emilia Jones, Quantico‘s Marlee Matlin, You‘s Daniel Durant and Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye‘s Troy Kotsur. The comedy-drama film is written and directed by Sian Heder and is a remake of the French film La Famille Bélier.

So, can you watch Coda on Netflix? We let you know if you can watch Coda on your favorite streaming service down below.

Is Coda available to stream on Netflix?

Sadly, you’re going to have to add Coda to your list of movies you can’t watch on Netflix. We really wanted to see what decision Ruby makes about her future, but I guess we’ll have to look elsewhere to watch this comedy-drama film.

But, I have good news! There are some movies on Netflix that you can watch now that provide representation of the deaf community. If you’re looking for a horror film, check out Hush. That movie will have you biting your nails and yelling at the TV screen.

If you’re into anime, you might want to check out the anime movie A Silent Voice. The film is definitely a tear-jerker, but you’ll enjoy the film nonetheless. Lastly, I recommend that you watch the Netflix movie Audible.

Where to watch Coda

Coda had its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival in January 2021 and was released in theaters and on Apple TV+ on Aug. 13. You can still see the movie in theaters now, and if you have an Apple TV+ subscription, you can watch Coda on the streaming service.

Also, if you haven’t already used your free trial on Apple TV+, you can watch the movie for free if you start the 7-day free trial. So go watch Coda in theaters or on Apple TV+ if you can! If not, check out some of my Netflix movie suggestions.
