Tim Burton is directing the live-action Wednesday series for Netflix. The Netflix original series will focus on Wednesday Addams, daughter of the creepy and kooky Addams family. The first season is set to consist of eight episodes.

Cartoonist Charles Adams created the Addams Family in 1938. They are a wealthy family who has a taste for the macabre, completely unaware that most people find them unusual. The original family consisted of Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Grandmama, Lurch and Pugsley’s pet octopus Aristotle.

Throughout Addams history, there have been tv series, animated series, multiple movies and a musical all featuring this delightfully spooky family.

We shared who has joined the cast of Netflix’s Wednesday below.

In May, it was announced that Jenna Ortega would take the lead role of Wednesday in this original series. Ortega is known for her roles in You, Richie Rich, Jane the Virgin, Insidious: Chapter 2, The Fall Out and The Babysitter: Killer Queen. She will also star in the new Scream, which is coming in January 2022.

Recently, Gomez and Morticia Addams have also been confirmed to be a part of the series. Luis Guzman will play the patriarch of the Addams family. He will follow in the footsteps of Raul Julia, John Austin and Tim Curry, who have all portrayed Gomez and Oscar Isaac who voiced the character in the animated Addams Family film from 2019.

Variety has reported that the role of Morticia will be played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. Anjelica Huston has previously played in the ’90s Addams Family movies. Recently, Charlize Theron voiced the character in the animated film with Isaac, as mentioned above.

We shared the official synopsis, via Netflix, below:

"The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore."

This series is shaping up to be a great new look at a family that has been portrayed over many generations of viewers.

Wednesday doesn’t have a release date yet, but we will be sure to keep you posted on any new information for this series.
