Will we meet Sarah’s mom in Outer Banks season 3?
By Reed Gaudens
Outer Banks season 2 premiered on Netflix on July 30, and fans are going wild over all the new twists and turns that took the Pogues on an unbelievable adventure. But the new episodes definitely left us with even more questions for the next chapter of Outer Banks.
From the fight for the Cross of Santo Domingo and that season-ending cliffhanger that totally changed the game, new questions were flying left and right. We could barely keep up with each heart-stopping moment that nearly took the lives of our beloved Pogues.
But one of the biggest aspects of Outer Banks that hasn’t completely been explored is the matter of the absent parents. We’ve met many of the teen characters’ parents, who aren’t usually thrilled with their treasure-hunting activities, but where are the ones who aren’t around?
While some of the parents are more toxic than others (looking directly at you, Ward Cameron and JJ’s dad), we don’t really know what to make of John B’s mom and Sarah’s mom because we haven’t met them yet. It begs the question: Will we meet Sarah’s mom in Outer Banks season 3?
Who is Sarah’s mom in Outer Banks?
Not much is currently known about Sarah’s biological mother because she’s rarely mentioned and not an integral part of the story. However, given how quickly Outer Banks dishes out plot twists, we wouldn’t be surprised if absent parents suddenly become important in the future.
Right now, Sarah’s main maternal figure is Rose, her stepmother and the naively supportive wife of Ward. As the stepmother of Rafe, Sarah and Wheezie, Rose isn’t particularly doting (and Sarah would agree). She seems more concerned with Ward’s wealth than anything else.
Warning: Spoilers from Outer Banks season 2 ahead!
Will Sarah’s mom be in Outer Banks season 3?
Although Outer Banks season 2 made no conscious effort in hinting that Sarah’s mom would appear next season, now would be the perfect time to introduce the mysterious mother that’s for some reason not around. Is she alive? Is she nearby? There’s so many lingering questions.
Since Sarah’s familial relationships have all dwindled with Ward taking off for a private island on the Coastal Venture with Rafe, Rose and Wheezie in tow (save Wheezie!), a reunion with her real mom would hit especially close to home.
Considering she and John B both have a maternal lack in common, navigating their individual traumas associated with not having mothers present in their lives would only add more layers to their relationship and deepen their character development.
Besides all of the rich character work that could come from meeting Sarah’s mom in season 3, we’re just nosy and want to know everything about these characters. And, like… How does Sarah’s mom feel about leaving her children to be raised by a murderer?
Clearly, we’re ready to meet Sarah’s mom in Outer Banks season 3. Do you agree? Share your hopes and predictions for all things OBX in the comments!
