Stranger Things season 4 release date will be announced “soon”

Stranger Things season 4 is still filming in southern parts of the United States (Georgia and New Mexico), but things should be winding down soon. And, that’s not the only good news about Stranger Things season 4.

According to a report from Variety, Stranger Things executive producer and director Shawn Levy revealed Stranger Things season 4 is “coming soon.” Levy didn’t stop there, though! He also mentioned the release date would be announced “quite soon.”

Here’s what Levy told Variety about season 4:

"“It’s coming soon enough. And as for when exactly that will be announced — quite soon.”"

When is Stranger Things season 4 coming out?

I don’t know what “soon” and “quite soon” mean in this context. I really hope it means 2021, but I’m not getting my hopes up high just yet. Obviously, this is good news, though! Any time the cast or creative team is willing to talk about the release date, that’s a very good sign that things are happening.

Levy didn’t officially confirm a Stranger Things season 4 release date in 2021, but that’s what everyone is wondering. It’s going to be difficult to make that happen, but if it does happen, that will have to be announced soon-ish. Netflix has never had problem revealing Stranger Things release dates early.

The Stranger Things season 3 release date was announced seven full months before the season premiered. So, even if we do learn the release date “quite soon,” the season might not be coming that soon, you know?

My issue is that Netflix has a stacked lineup for the rest of 2021. There are big shows coming every week! You’d think that Netflix would want to space things out a little bit, but I could be wrong there.

I’m still thinking Stranger Things season 4 is coming in early 2022. Finn Wolfhard confirmed that earlier this year, but Netflix has not committed to or announced a season 4 release date in 2022, though. At this point, it’s almost like why not just tell people if it’s coming out next year?

I really want to see Stranger Things season 4 this year, I really, really do. It just seems like it’ll be tough to make that happen. Most likely, Netflix won’t release season 4 during December with all the Christmas/holiday programming and The Witcher season 2 (Dec. 17, 2021).

November looks pretty open, though. If Stranger Things season 4 arrives in 2021, it’ll probably be a November release. Of course, that’s just optimistic thinking.

Could we see a New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day release for Stranger Things season 4? That hadn’t occurred to me until now, but that would be really fun. Netflix always releases a new original series on one of those days, sometimes both.

More realistically, we could see Stranger Things season 4 by Valentine’s Day 2022. We all know how they love to release new seasons around the holidays. That’s the first big holiday after Christmas, so it’s definitely possible.
