Demon Slayer age rating: Is the anime appropriate for kids?

Demon Slayer, the action fantasy drama based on the manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge, has been a popular anime on Netflix since it made its debut on the platform in January 2021.

The series, which began airing in 2019, tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a teenage boy who begins his journey as a demon slayer after his family is slaughtered. The only loved one he has left is his sister, Nezuko, who wasn’t left unscathed from the massacre. Due to her wounds coming in contact with demon blood, Nezuko has become a demon herself.

Her body’s transformation has granted her abilities she didn’t previously have such as super healing, body transfiguration which allows her to change her size at will, increased strength, and demon arts that involve her claws. She also has a nearly uncontrollable thirst for blood and can’t step out into sunlight for fear of being rendered to dust.

Going off of the plot of Demon Slayer, it’s understandable if prospective viewers are hesitant to dive into the anime. Here’s what to expect from the series in terms of content, if you’re wondering if the show would be something you or your children would be interested in.

Demon Slayer is rated TV-MA. The central core of the anime is about Tanjiro’s training as a slayer and desire to cure his sister. Demons in the show are primarily ruthless, murderous creatures who devour their victims. The anime depicts these attacks graphically, blood and gore are a staple of the series.

Decapitation is prevalent as its the means for killing demons. There’s also intense fighting sequences and strong violence as the overall goal of every slayer is to kill the demons they come across until they’re wiped from existence.

According to IMDb, profanity is present in Demon Slayer, however, it’s occasional and mild, the same can be said for drinking and smoking. There aren’t any sex scenes or fanservice in the series thus far.
