What do The Witcher season 2 episode titles mean?
Spoilers for The Witcher seasons 1 and 2 ahead
We’re heading into The Witcher season 2 with Geralt and Ciri finally having been thrown together after a season’s long journey to their joint story in this universe. Now under his charge, we’ll be navigating Ciri’s place in the show outside of a scared girl running for her life.
Though, by evidence of the intro animation before the episode titles were revealed, she’s still being hunted. Geralt, however, will be her fiercest protector. While, it’s unclear how things will shake out in the season, we can glean some hints from the titles.
The second episode, “Kaer Morhen,” refers to the keep where witchers like Geralt were trained. According to the Witcher Fandom Wiki, it’s where he brings Ciri in book canon. This is where she’ll learn to fight.
“What is Lost,” the third episode of season 2 bears the crest of the bird that represents Ciri in the announcement video. “Kaer Morhen,” bearing the symbol of a snarling wolf suggests that it will be an episode focused on Geralt’s life from his past to his present. As such the following episode focusing on Ciri seems only fitting.
Ciri lost her home and her family in season 1, perhaps we’ll see her processing her grief and, potentially, her anger in the third episode. She’s young, forced into a situation outside of her making, and adjusting to being in the care of Geralt. It’s likely not to be an easy adjustment no matter how sweet their hug was in the season 1 finale.
Redania is a country in the Witcher universe, so “Redanian Intelligence” either means we’ll be visiting this trading hub or they’re soldiers are tracking our leads. Either way, we’re wary of episode 4. It’ll serve as the show’s midseason which means this is likely when things go terribly wrong.
Let’s skip to “Voleth Meir,” our penultimate episode, which translates to Deathless Mother. The International Business Times reported on the character back in July 2020 after the site Redanian Intelligence clocked the inclusion of the name in work by the show’s language creator David Peterson.
She’s described as “a very old white-haired woman. A demon, who roams the land bargaining and preying on people’s deepest and darkest desires.” How she fits into the season, we don’t know, but with her episode being before the season finale, which has a redacted title, she could be what tips the scales out of our leads favor.
