Happy Friday, horror fans! The second film in the Fear Street trilogy has dropped on Netflix today, and if you were a fan of the first one, you’ll definitely want to check out the latest. Fear Street Part 2: 1978 takes us back 16 years when a previous murder spree in Shadyside went down, taking place at the prime summer spot for teenagers, Camp Nightwing.

As you’ll recall, the final moments of Fear Street Part 1: 1994 introduced us to C. Berman (Gillian Jacobs), the one person Deena (Kiana Madeira) and her friends discovered saw the witch and survived to tell the tale.

Looking for answers to save Sam (Olivia Scott Welch), Deena and her brother Josh (Benjamin Flores Jr.) go to C. Berman’s house and beg her to help them out. After some hesitation, she agrees, and begins to tell the story of what happened to her and her sister all those years ago at Camp Nightwing. This is how Fear Street Part 2: 1978 begins, and what’s to follow is the bloody story of when the witch, Sarah Fier, possessed a camp counselor named Tommy (McCabe Slye).

*Spoilers ahead for Fear Street: 1978.*

So the movie already proves that C. Berman survived everything that went down in 1978 considering she’s alive in 1994 and explaining the story — but how? How is it that she’s the only known survivor after seeing Sarah Fier?

How does C. Berman survive the witch in Fear Street?

In Fear Street Part 1: 1994, Sam realizes through newspaper clippings Josh found that C. Berman did survive, but she died first. Of course, this is then what leads to their plan to save Sam in killing her and bringing her back to life.

So yes, C. Berman does die and does come back to life in Fear Street Part 2: 1978. Back at Camp Nightwing, a young C. Berman (nicknamed Ziggy, played by Sadie Sink) and her older sister Cindy (Emily Rudd) are terrorized by Cindy’s boyfriend Tommy who gets possessed by Sarah Fier. Multiple gruesome murders later, and in the end, only Ziggy and Cindy are left at the camp with the witch’s henchmen.

Cindy and Ziggy head towards Sarah Fier’s grave so they can reunite her lost hand with her body, but they’re too late. The henchmen are coming after the sisters, and ultimately Ziggy is stabbed repeatedly while Cindy is hit with an ax over and over. They both die, though Ziggy is saved by her love interest in the movie, a young Nick Goode (Ted Sutherland), who performs CPR on her.

Ziggy is brought back to life, which is when it’s revealed that her real name is Christine. She would grow up to become C. Berman, and Nick would become the town’s policeman (Ashley Zukerman) in Fear Street: 1994.

C. Berman has to die in order to be brought back to life, but it doesn’t look like the same will apply for Sam. As we saw in Fear Street: 1994, Deena drowned Sam and brought her back to life with CPR, yet she still turned out possessed in the end.

We’re hopeful to see what’s resolved for Shadyside — if anything — when the final film in the trilogy debuts. Fear Street Part 3: 1666 hits Netflix next Friday, July 16.
