Bridgerton

If you didn’t read the books and thought Bridgerton would just be a fun, romantic Regency drama, you were probably surprised (pleasantly surprised?) when the new hit Netflix original series took a turn for the provocative. Although power and politics played a large part in the show’s story, sex played an even larger part in the love stories of Daphne and the Duke, as well as Anthony and Kate, not unlike the fan-favorite show Outlander.

Based on the series of Bridgerton books by Julia Quinn, the first season of the series centers on Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the fourth child in the family and oldest daughter. When it becomes time for Daphne to court a potential husband, she whips up a scheme with the handsome and powerful Simon, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), ultimately leading to love.

While the road to love was rocky for Daphne and Simon, their behind-closed-doors (and sometimes in the stairwell… or in the garden… or anywhere when they felt the passion in the heat of the moment) romance was one for the ages. Even Lady Whistledown would have blushed had she really known all of the tea.

Thankfully, Bridgerton season 2 arrived and maintained the show's steamy nature (though with noticeably fewer sex scenes than the first season). The spinoff prequel Queen Charlotte turned the heat back on, and there's no doubt the long-time-coming third season will be well worth the wait. No way around it, the period drama will continue to be one of the sexiest shows on Netflix for years to come.
