It’s officially Fear Street day, horror fans! If you’re anything like me, you’d been counting down the days until the first film in the trilogy dropped on Netflix, and the time has come. This adaptation is based on the R.L. Stine books of the same name, however with an R-rated twist. While the source material is for kids, these movies certainly are not, and there are multiple kills in the first installment to prove it.

The trailer for the trilogy promises big scares and gore, and Fear Street Part 1: 1994 does not disappoint in those departments. The first movie follows protagonist Deena (Kiana Madeira), a teenager who feels like an outcast in her town of Shadyside, Ohio. While she has a best friend in Kate (Julia Rehwald), her father’s an alcoholic and her girlfriend Sam (Olivia Scott Welch) moved to another town and abandoned their relationship.

Things only get worse when there’s a murder in town and a guy wearing a skull mask starts chasing Deena and her friends. Not only is Deena battling with the fact that Sam has a new boyfriend Peter (Jeremy Ford), but she’s also about to face the undead.

And, with that, comes tons of murder. If you’re here for spoilers about Fear Street Part 1: 1994 and want to know who gets killed, we’re here to break down all the major deaths.

Who dies in Fear Street Part 1: 1994?

Heather: Played by Stranger Things star Maya Hawke, poor Heather gets killed in the opening scene after being chased by a guy in a skull mask. The teen is working at the mall during closing hours when she is stalked and eventually stabbed to death.

Ryan: The man in the skull mask is soon caught and shot by a mall cop, and it’s revealed he’s Ryan, Heather’s good friend. Though he comes back to life a bit later on, he technically dies in the opening scene.

Peter: Sam’s new boyfriend Peter is a total jerk, but that doesn’t mean he deserved to die. He’s visiting Sam in the hospital when the skull mask man comes up behind him and kills him.

Nurse Beddy: Unfortunately, Nurse Beddy is in the wrong place at the wrong time as the skull mask man also murders him at the hospital.

Ruby Lane: So technically, Ruby Lane is already dead when Deena shoots her. But a kill’s a kill, right? Deena’s friend Simon is lured by a young woman singing a song on the side of the street, but when he goes over to find out if she’s okay, she attacks him. Fortunately, Deena had stolen a gun from the police department and she does the deed.

Ruby does heal herself, however, and is soon back.

Kate: This is when it gets super messed up, and I’m sorry to say it, but in the best way. Deena and her friends lure the undead henchmen — the people working for the witch Sarah Fier — into an empty grocery store. The plan is to kill Sam and bring her back to life, but they don’t get to that in time. Kate is stabbed and her head is shoved into what appears to be a bread slicer or meat grinder — and you can guess what happens next.

Hands down, the best kill in this movie.

Simon: It’s unfortunate that Kate has to die, of course, and Simon’s death is also sad. He’s hit in the head with an ax and is quickly killed.

So we’ve got seven major kills in the first film in the Fear Street trilogy, with one really outshining the rest. One of the final scenes includes a shocking moment where Deena is stabbed, but it looks like she does survive, thankfully.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 certainly shot our expectations up when it comes to the series, and we cannot wait to see what happens in the next installment. Fear Street Part 2: 1978 premieres on Netflix on Friday, July 9.
