All of the Stranger Things connections to Fear Street
By Sabrina Reed
It truly is a small world! The Fear Street trilogy, the trio of teen horror movies that are likely to become your new obsession, has more than one tie to Netflix’s most popular original series.
Stranger Things has been the biggest show to come from the streamer since it was a DVD rental service. That’s saying a lot considering the platform has gained notoriety for shows stretching across genres that are both award-winners and critically acclaimed.
Still, nothing on Netflix has garnered the kind of pop culture attention and staying power quite like this sci-fi horror series. It’s got the kind of ‘It’ factor that keeps audiences clamoring for more. One only has to look at the fervor surrounding the highly anticipated Stranger Things season 4, which still doesn’t have a release date, to know what kind of impact the series has on TV lovers.
As Stranger Things fans here at Netflix Life, we can’t help but wonder what magic from the series is going to rub off on this film trilogy considering its connections to the beloved show.
Stranger Things meets Fear Street
First, there’s star power to consider. Both Maya Hawke (Robin) and Sadie Sink (Max) are in the Fear Street trilogy.
The opening of Fear Street Part 1 shows Hawke working as a bookstore clerk in a scene that gives Scream vibes. Meanwhile, Sink’s character, Ziggy Berman, is taking us back to the ’70s with a stint at summer camp that goes murderously wrong.
Sink told Collider she did stunt work for Fear Street Part 2:
"One thing that I did take with me from Fear Street is just my experience with stunts now. I think I feel like I’ve got a lot more experience and that’s helped me along the way."
The actress also confirmed that Stranger Things and Fear Street share a lot of the same crew which has us wondering if we may get some Easter eggs for the series dropped into the trilogy.
The director of the Fear Street movies, Leigh Janiak, is married to Ross Duffer. For Sink, her time filming felt like a mini-reunion. In the Collider interview, Sink said:
"“…I had known Leigh since I was like 14 years old, so it was really exciting to get to work with her because it was something that I’ve been wanting to do.”"
Will we see some more cross-pollinating between Fear Street and Stranger Things? We certainly hope so. Perhaps, there might even be Easter eggs for the trilogy in season 4 of the series.
We’ll keep you posted on more Fear Street and Stranger Things news as it comes in!
