Echoes limited series from 13 Reasons Why creator Brian Yorkey coming to Netflix
By Renee Hansen
Netflix has ordered a new limited series from 13 Reasons Why showrunner Brian Yorkey. Deadline has reported that the psychological thriller is titled Echoes and will be written by Yorkey.
The Netflix original series 13 Reasons Why was a huge hit for the streamer. Yorkey adapted the series from the novel by Jay Asher. According to Deadline, Yorkey and Netflix have recently struck a multi-year deal with Echoes being the first production in that agreement.
Brian Yorkey is the most recent writer-producer to make a deal with the streamer. He is added to the impressive list of Shonda Rhimes, Ryan Murphy, The Duffer Brothers, Michael Green, Mara Brock Akil and Guillermo del Toro, to only name a few of those who have made similar deals with Netflix.
Yorkey has teamed with Vanessa Gazy (Eden) and Quinton Peeples (Marvel’s Runaways) to create Echoes, a story about identical twin sisters, Leni and Gina, who throughout their lives have oftentimes switched places unbeknownst to everyone around them. As adults, they each have a husband, a home and a child but do continue to lead their double lives. When one of the girls comes up missing, their secrets begin to unravel.
Echoes release date
Casting for the new limited series Echoes has only begun, so it will be a while before we see any episodes available on Netflix. The limited series will consist of seven episodes. With the success of 13 Reasons Why, much is expected of Yorkey’s new series.
Peeples will serve as the executive producer and will serve as co-showrunner with Yorkey. Gazy will write and also executive produce the series. Additionally, Imogen Banks and Endemol Shine Banks Australia will also serve as executive producers.
Yorkey has won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Next to Normal, a rock musical that he wrote. The musical also received a Tony Award for best score that was produced by Tom Kitt. Yorkey and Kitt also teamed up for If/Then, another musical that starred Idina Menzel, and a musical version of the film Freaky Friday.
