Riverdale season 5 is not coming to Netflix in July 2021

Riverdale season 5 has been on hiatus for nearly three months, and we still have another month and some weeks to go before the show returns.

Thankfully, this hellatus hasn’t been too painful. The CW and the powers that be of the show have periodically dropped Riverdale news, including the return of Josie and the Pussycats, along the way. While the announcement that the season’s original return date of July 7 would be pushed to August 11 was a blow, we now know Riverdale will also be returning to the network’s fall TV line-up in 2021.

Season 6 of the show will premiere Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 9 p.m. after The Flash, pairing our crime solving Riverdale heroes with Team Flash for a blowout block of television.

News of the sixth season’s debut also included a tease for a five-episode event, which has our interest piqued about what will happen in 5B that will lead to this presumably iconic episode arc.

First, however, the show has to return and tells us what happened to Jughead and just what exactly Betty is about to get up to as an undercover trucker.

Riverdale season 5 Netflix release date

As for when Netflix fans can expect Riverdale season 5 on the platform, we’re looking at October. If the series isn’t preempted again, which we doubt will happen since there’s a confirmed date for its season 6 premiere, the season 5 finale should air Wednesday, Oct. 6.

That’ll put the fifth season on Netflix on Thursday, Oct. 14. For fans who want to binge the season in time for the five-episode event that opens season 6, you’ll have a little over a month to catch up.

We’re holding out for a super-crossover with cast members from Katy Keene and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

K.O. Kelly and Bernardo made an appearance in season 5. Cheryl prayed at a dark altar with her mom in “Chapter Eighty-Six: The Pincushion Man” after Minerva (played by Adeline Rudolph aka Agatha Night on CAOS) fled the scene.

It’s definitely not a reach, y’all, so we have our fingers crossed. Also, given when the show returns we’re hoping for a holiday themed cross-over. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and murder, anyone?

We’ll keep you posted on Riverdale news as it comes in. Also, check out our Netflix Life Podcast where Bryce Olin and Cody Schultz give you the latest on what’s coming and going on the streamer along with an inevitable discussion on what is and isn’t happening with Riverdale.

Riverdale season 5 returns to The CW on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 8 p.m. ET
