It’s time to celebrate summer with some beach movies and shows on Netflix.

Often, we picture movies or shows with a beach theme to be happy with people on the beach having a great time or a raunchy campy romp. But, that isn’t always the case. Sometimes, beach movies and shows can be more serious and dramatic or even contain a lot of action. So, depending on your mood, there are plenty of options.

Below, we break down some great beached-themed choices on Netflix to get your summer going.

Outer Banks

The Netflix original series, Outer Banks, has been a huge hit for the streamer. When it was released in April 2020, it became an instant success. Outer Banks season 2 will be released on July 30, 2021. The series is an action-adventure set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Outer Banks is a coming-of-age series that follows two groups of teens, known as the Pogues and their rival group, the Kooks. John B (Chase Stokes) goes on a quest to locate a long-lost treasure. This set off events that will fill the group’s time with mystery and adventure they weren’t expecting.

Other cast members include Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Austin North, Charles Esten and Drew Starkey.

Malibu Rescue, Series and The Next wave

Malibu Rescue is a comedy franchise that consists of two films and one season, which are all available on Netflix. This is a family comedy that teens can enjoy, and it’s interesting enough that parents won’t run from the room.

Malibu Rescue, the first film, was released in 2019 and kicked off the franchise. This film served as the pilot for the series.

A group of four high schoolers from the Valley has aspirations of becoming part of the Junior Rescue Program on Malibu Beach. The snobby local teens aren’t accepting of the city outsiders. Tyler, a local who is forced into the program by his father, teams up with the Valley kids and the group become known as the Flounders. The program leader Garvin sets them up to fail, making them want to prove they all belong in the program.

Malibu Rescue, the series, was also released in 2019, only a few weeks after the first film. It consists of eight episodes and picks up where the first film left off. Team Flounder has returned, and the series follows their adventures for the summer.

Malibu Rescue: The Next Wave, the second film, was released in August of 2020. Once again, we reconnect with Team Founder as the new season starts. This time they will unexpectedly compete in the International Beachmaster Competition.
