It’s officially official: Manifest has been canceled. After getting the axe from its home network following three underrated (both literally and figuratively) seasons, the series failed to find a new place to land. Netflix’s pass was the final nail in the proverbial coffin.

Of course, the first two seasons of Manifest started streaming just as the conversation surrounding the bubble show’s fate started to burst, making the chances of a second wind look promising. But in the end, this layover doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon.

The series had been conceived as a six-season story by creator Jeff Rake, and its cancellation right in the middle of its arc will leave loyal fans with lingering questions for years to come. Obviously, one of those questions will always be why, exactly, their favorite show got canned.

If you’re wondering why NBC canceled Manifest, why Netflix couldn’t save the series and what the chances are for season 4 to happen in the future, you’re not the only one looking for answers. Let’s try to crack this developing mysteries together, Manifesters.

Why did NBC cancel Manifest?

As always, the reasoning behind a network’s decision to cancel a series can get a little complicated. While no real reason has been provided for Manifest’s cancellation, it’s clear that the ratings declined from the stable highs in season 1.

Beyond ratings, production costs and profit losses can also contribute to a show getting canceled, which could have been the case for Manifest. If a show is too expensive to produce and not enough people are watching, it’s often the kiss of death.

That’s not to say that’s what happened here, but we can glean from this same situation happening to adored shows time and time again that something similar caused the missing plane drama to take its final flight. And the circle of television life continues.

Will there be a season 4 of Manifest?

Right now, Manifest season 4 seems to be off the table. Netflix passing on a pickup to save the series effectively sealed the show’s fate, as the streamer was deemed the best bet for a savior. In the end, the options on the cast expired and further negotiations presented too great of a hurtle.

Nonetheless, and take this with a grain of salt, where there’s a will, there’s a way for a series to make a triumphant comeback. Even though Netflix didn’t save the series like it did with Lucifer (the streamer hasn’t rescued a show in a while), anything’s possible in the era of reboots and revivals. We’ve seen shows like NBC’s own Timeless return for a wrap-up finale, so make sure to manifest a comeback for Manifest.

Where can you watch Manifest season 3?

Even though Manifest has been officially canceled, that doesn’t mean new fans won’t be able to finish watching the story as it stands. Newbies to the missing plane fold, as well as diehard viewers looking for their next fix, can watch Manifest season 3 on NBC.com, Hulu and Peacock. The now final season is expected to hit Netflix, which will surely inspire some strong feelings from fans.
