Workin’ Moms

I have only recently discovered this one of the shows on Netflix, and I can’t believe someone didn’t tell me about this sooner. Workin’ Moms looks at a group of moms who keeps things real and puts everything out there with no shame.

Workin’ Moms currently has five seasons available to stream, with a sixth expected in winter 2021.

Kate, Anne, Frankie and Jenny each experience different struggles juggling parenthood, friendship, romance, and raising children. The series is a candid look at motherhood and all that goes along with it in a way that makes all of the normal, non-TV moms feel like they might just be doing something right.

Catherine Reitman, Jessalyn Wanlim, Dani Kind and Juno Rinaldi star as Kate, Anne, Frankie and Jenny, respectively, and each character is unique. You really want them in your friend group. The script is drawn from the real-life experiences of Reitman, who is also the creator of the series.

If you need a series to give you huge laughs, this is the one.

Penguin Town

Patton Oswalt narrates the docuseries Penguin Town, which isn’t your typical documentary. This eight-part series follows a special group of African Penguins in Simon’s Town, South Africa.

Oswalt opens with the line, “There are a lot of movies about penguins.” This is true, but this series isn’t the documentary you are used to seeing. Instead of watching them in nature doing penguin things, we get a look into what the locals call “jackass penguins.”

When it’s time for the penguins to lay their eggs, instead of finding a nice quiet spot to nest, they flock to the town to set up camp and hatch and care for their young. They mingle with the townsfolk and tourists, as Simon’s Town is a popular resort town.

Penguin Town follows three sets of penguins, the Bougainviellas, the Newlyweds and Junior. It is an endearing look at penguins in a setting we aren’t used to seeing them in. This is a warm climate, and they live among humans.

This series is a refreshing change from the typical animal documentaries, and Osawlt adds in his comedic flair, making this one to watch with the whole family.
