What is Katla on Netflix about?
By Diana Nosa
Netflix has a way of scaring viewers with the many apocalyptic, dystopian series and films currently on its platform. The Netflix original series Katla is another ominous sci-fi program coming our way this month.
The film Army of the Dead starring Dave Bautista was filled with hungry human-eating zombies, Sweet Tooth depicts half-human, half-animal creatures that came about because of a hazardous pandemic, and Awake shows what would happen if society never sleeps…and it’s definitely not pretty.
Katla joins that short list in June and it’s going to be a doozy. Here’s everything to know about the upcoming series.
What is Katla about?
Katla tells the story of a young woman who suddenly appears after a year of being missing. She was covered in ashes after the Katla volcano erupted and swallowed her whole. She shouldn’t be alive, and it’s a mystery how she emerged unscathed.
Now there are many others like her rising from the ashes, spelling disaster for this small society. What is the truth behind these people returning, and most importantly, what is the dark force at play behind this mysterious volcano? More from the official synopsis here.
"The catastrophic eruption of subglacial volcano Katla turns a nearby community’s world upside down as mysteries begin to emerge from the ice."
The cast of this unnerving series features a few fresh faces you’ll be delighted to meet, with Icelandic actress Gudrun Eyfjord playing Grima, Iris Tanja Flygenring as Asa, Ingvar Sigurdsson as Por, and Aliette Opheim as Gunhild.
