Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal plot synopsis

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal is a two-part film directed by Chiaki Kon and written by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu. The first part was theatrically released in Japan on January 8, 2021 followed by the second part on February 11, 2021 after being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the first time in 26 years that Sailor Moon had been released in theaters, the last film being Sailor Moon SuperS: The 9 Sailor Soldiers Unite! Miracle of the Black Dream Hole! released in 1995.

In late April, Netflix acquired the steaming rights for both parts and announced that it would be releasing the film worldwide.

The Netflix synopsis reads:

"“When a dark power enshrouds the Earth after a total solar eclipse, the scattered Sailor Guardians must reunite to bring light back into the world.”"

Part 1 focuses on a sudden solar eclipse as Usagi and Chibiusa meet a strange Pegasus by the name of Helios. Helios is searching for a chosen maiden that will break the seal of the Golden Crystal. In the trailer, he appears in Chibiusa’s dreams asking for her help. The film will also follow the story of Chibiusa’s first love as she develops feelings for Helios.

Meanwhile, a circus arrives in town called the Dead Moon Circus who wish to scatter nightmare incarnations across the world so that they can eventually rule the Earth and Moon. Their goal is to obtain the legendary Silver Crystal that will allow them to control the universe. The second part follows the final battle once all ten Sailor Guardians have reunited to fight Queen Nehelenia, the leader of the Dead Moon Circus.

Both parts of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie will be available to stream on Netflix on June 3.
