Since Fruits Basket received a revival after being off-air for 18 years, long-time fans have been bouncing for joy having another chance to see Natsuki Takaya’s masterpiece adapted.

The revival series aired in 2019 and has gone on to become one of the best anime there is, almost de-throning romance film Your Name from its No. 1 spot.

What is Fruits Basket about?

Fruits Basket tells the story of a high schooler named Tohru Honda, who is homeless after becoming an orphan. Soon after, she meets Shigure and Yuki, who take her into their home after finding out that she living, hilariously, in a tent.

Upon living with these new people, she meets other members of the Zodiac, a clan who is cursed with the ability to turn into the Chinese zodiac animals when sick or when hugging a member of the opposite gender. The clan’s fate is to live eternally bonded to a God named Akito, having no room to live their lives nor prepare for the future.

Tohru is determined to break the curse that binds all these members to a sorrowful fate, but she’s on a time limit as the love of her life will eventually be sentenced to a life in exile. Will she be strong enough to do so?

Unfortunately, it looks like Netflix no longer has the drama anime series available to stream on its platform, and it is a tad unclear when or if the anime will ever come back.

Both the 2001 version as well as the current 2019 version of Fruits Basket is currently available to watch on Hulu. The streaming platform only has the first two seasons of the most recent season, but, likely, the site will eventually have the third and final season available later this year.

Additionally, upon subscription, you can watch every episode of the 2019 anime series on Crunchyroll.
