The release of the first exciting trailer for Venom: Let There be Carnage has sparked significant interest among fans to want to relive the first blockbuster film, leading many subscribers to wonder when the Venom movie will be available to stream on Netflix.

Venom first appeared in the comics as The Alien Costume in The Amazing Spider-Man #252 in May 1984 and then debuted as the infamous villain in The Amazing Spider-Man #299 in April 1988 in a cameo, with a full appearance in the following issue The Amazing Spider-Man #300. Ever since then, the character has been arguably the most popular villain of Spider-Man, and it was really no surprise fans were thrilled to learn that the sentient alien symbiote who survives off bonding with a host was not only getting his own solo R-rated film, but also that Tom Hardy was going to play Eddie Brock on the big screen.

The movie’s narrative follows Hardy’s character Brock, a struggling reporter who becomes bonded to the alien being Venom, and together they stop other symbiotes from taking over the Earth. Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, and Reid Scott round out the rest of the antihero flick’s cast. The Sony Marvel film outdid all expectations at the box office and earned $856 million worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of 2018.

A sequel was greenlit with Woody Harrelson added to the roster as Carnage, another symbiote character almost as, if not more, popular than Venom and Andy Serkis taking over as director, bringing his many years of mocap expertise to the table. With the anticipation high for the sequel, it makes sense that everyone would want to watch the original again, especially Netflix subscribers.

Is Venom coming to Netflix?

It doesn’t seem like Venom or its sequel will be on Netflix anytime soon. The deal the streaming service recently made with Sony allows for theatrical releases from the studio to stream exclusively on Netflix after the first pay window closes, which, per The Hollywood Reporter, is 18 months after a motion picture is in theaters.

This starts in 2022, so Venom: Let There be Carnage won’t be part of that ordeal as it releases in September 2021.

There does not seem to be any plans at this moment for Netflix to stream Venom. As of right now, the film is only available on VOD services and for Hulu TV subscribers. Forbes claims there is a chance it could end up on a Disney-owned service around when the sequel releases.

There is a chance things could change sometime down the line and it could make its way to the streaming powerhouse’s library of content, but for now, Netflix subscribers will have to enjoy all of the other great comic book-based titles on the menu. These enthralling endeavors include Jupiter’s Legacy, The Old Guard, Project Power, and The Umbrella Academy, just to name a few.
