Erotic romantic thrillers are all the rage these days, with movies like 365 days generating a robust amount of popularity when it arrived on Netflix last year. This has inevitably led to subscribers seeking out similar titles to enjoy, including inquiries into the Netflix availability of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Fifty Shades of Grey is based on the best-selling book of the same name written by E.L. James. The feature was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, who is known for helming Nowhere Boy, where she met her husband, MCU actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson. 50 Shades of Grey was written by Saving Mr. Banks screenwriter Kelly Marcel. The erotic drama was released on February 13, 2015, after premiering at the Berlin Film Festival on February 11, 2015, grossing a total of $569.7 million against a $40 million budget.

The movie stars Suspiria‘s Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, a college graduate who ends up in an enticing relationship with a business magnate who also happens to be a sadomasochist named Christian Grey, played by Synchronic‘s Jamie Dornan. Other cast members include Jennifer Ehle, Marcia Gay Harden, Max Martini, Eloise Mumford, Victor Rasuk, Luke Grimes, and Rita Ora.

Songs from the film’s soundtrack gained tons of popularity, such as Ellie Goulding’s single “Love Me Like You Do,” which was nominated for a Golden Globe, and The Weeknd’s single “Earned It,” which was nominated for an Oscar. Whether it’s the stirring story or stellar performances, it’s no wonder why subscribers wonder if Fifty Shades of Grey is available to stream on Netflix.
