Stranger Things season 4 rumors, theories, spoilers, and release date
By Bryce Olin
Stranger Things season 4 is the most highy anticipated season of a Netflix show ever. Stranger Things is one of the most popular shows on Netflix right now, and fans are trying to find any and all information about the new season.
There are so many rumors, theories, and supposed spoilers going around right now. We just wanted to put it all in one place to make it all more accessible.
We also shared a Stranger Things season 4 release date prediction below. Netflix has not shared the official release date yet.
Stranger Things season 4 rumors
There are a ton of weird Stranger Things season 4 rumors circulating the web!
The most interesting of the bunch is the rumor that Stranger Things season 4 and season 5 are being filmed back to back. Honestly, it sort of makes sense, although we don’t actually think it’s happening.
Production is taking a really long time, but I’m assuming that has more to do with the pandemic, the scope of season 4, and all of the restrictions that prevented the team from getting to work on the big sequences.
There have been reports that filming is expected to last until August, which would indicate that the show was filming for about eight months of this year. Some of season 4 had already been filmed before production shut down in 2020. And, we know they started filming something before Christmas 2020. So, that’s like 11 months of work on one season. Could they squeeze two seasons into the time?
I don’t think so, but it is interesting because we’ve heard from Gaten Matarazzo, Maya Hawke, and other cast members that the full season was written before they got back to work on season 4. That doesn’t usually happen. In past seasons, the Duffer Brothers and the writers would re-write episodes during a break between episode blocks. That’s not happening with season 4.
So, it makes sense why fans would question the length of production. Personally, I think that it’s much more likely that it’s just harder to film this show than others because of the huge cast, special effects, action sequences, safety precautions. Season 4 was always going to be the biggest of the bunch!
As far as the story, the rumor mill has it that the season will begin in 1986. The Byers have moved to some sunny or beachy location, possibly California or Florida. Other than that, we don’t really know what to expect.
There are some new characters, including a Russian smuggler, Yuri, who could help Joyce and Murray get to Hopper.
There are also some rumors that Kali, aka Eight, is coming back for season 4. The last we saw of her, Kali was escaping the police at the end of Stranger Things season 2.
Stranger Things season 4 theories
This is much more exciting than the rumors. There are so many theories about the future of Stranger Things out there. It’s hard to know what’s right and what’s not with how little we actually know about the world of the show, the Upside Down, what Dr. Brenner and co. was really doing at the Hawkins National Lab, and more.
Chernobyl
There’s obviously the theory that, somehow, Stranger Things season 4 is related to Chernobyl. I mean, the disaster happened in Russia in 1986, which is when the season is rumored to take place.
Lab Kids
In the latest teaser for Stranger Things season 4, it looks like we’re going to meet more of the kids that were in the Hawkins National Lab with Eleven. It’s unclear if this will be in Eleven’s backstory or if we’ll meet them in the present timeline.
I feel like this was always the way the show would go, and there’s so much potential here, especially when you consider all the different directions you can go with people with powers. Will they form some superteam? Will we meet new characters who could then be the center of a new Netflix show? The possibilities are endless.
What do I think? I think we’ll get to see Dr. Brenner and more kids (now adults or teens) who were at the Hawkins National Lab with Eleven. Maybe there’s a way they are all connected? Maybe there’s a way their collective trauma could have created something like the Upside Down and the breach between dimensions?
I think one of the focuses on season 4 could be that these people with powers are now being tracked down by Brenner and some other organization or even the US government. There’s something to the Plinko-style board with the numbers covered in the teaser. Could it mean that those people have been captured and the rest must band together to survive?
Time Travel
There are a lot of theories circulating the web, pertaining to time travel. There’s a clock featured in almost all of the Stranger Things season 4 teasers so far. And, we don’t really know what it means.
There are some who seem to believe that Eleven might be able to warp space and time with her mind and her abilities. There are others who think another person with powers might be able to send people backward and forward in time. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but there’s something happening here!
Stranger Things season 4 spoilers
We don’t know many spoilers about Stranger Things season 4, and that’s because the cast and crew do such a good job with leaks and keeping everything secret.
We only know what has been revealed, so spoiler alert!
Hopper (David Harbour) is alive! He is the American who was referenced at the end of season 3. That was confirmed on Valentine’s Day 2020 in the “From Russia With Love” teaser trailer.
We also know that Dr. Brenner will return in some capacity for the new season. That much has been confirmed in the latest teaser trailer. We just don’t know if he’ll be in flashbacks or if he’ll be back in the current timeline.
It’s also been revealed that D&D will have a much bigger presence in the new season.
On top of all of that, the Duffer Brothers and Netflix have teased, via Indiewire, “a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.”
COOL!
That’s all we know so far about the Stranger Things season 4 spoilers!
Stranger Things season 4 release date
This is the worst part! Stranger Things season 4 likely isn’t coming to Netflix until 2022. Finn Wolfhard confirmed as much recently, although Netflix has not made an official announcement yet.
We were supposed to see season 4 on Netflix in 2021, but the new season had only just started filming when everything was shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, everything was delayed.
It sounds like there’s some unpredictable information going around about how many seasons are being filmed and what exactly is happening with season 4. But, it looks like there’s still more work to be done on season 4 and production will likely last throughout the summer. That’s what new cast member Sherman Augustus mentioned earlier this year on Instagram.
So, we have imagine that Stranger Things season 4 will be released on Netflix in early 2022. We were supposed to see the new season in early 2021, but it’s likely that the season will just be a year delayed, basically.
New seasons of Stranger Things generally hit Netflix around the time that’s being depicted in the series. Season 2 was set around Halloween, and we saw the season premiere just before Halloween. Season 3 was set over the Fourth of July, and it hit Netflix during that weekend.
So, we are hoping that season 4 is a spring season and that we’ll see the new episodes sometime between February and May 2022.
That’s our best prediction right now! Stay tuned for more news about Stranger Things season 4!
