Shadow and Bone season 2 renewed or canceled: Everything you need to know about season 2

Shadow and Bone premiered on Netflix on Friday, April 23, 2021. The Netflix original series was a major hit over its opening weekend. Of course, everyone wants to know if Shadow and Bone season 2 is happening and when it’s coming out.

There were reports, before the season premiered on Netflix, that Netflix was already eyeing a second season for Shadow and Bone.

Below, we shared what you need to know about the Shadow and Bone season 2 renewal.

Is Shadow and Bone canceled?

No, Netflix has not canceled Shadow and Bone after one season. Obviously, given Netflix’s track record of canceling shows after one season, fans should be a little worried. As much as I think Shadow and Bone is safe, I thought The Irregulars was safe, too, but it was canceled after one season.

According to ReelGood, The Irregulars only stayed on the Netflix Top 10 TV shows list for 18 days. On top of that, it was only the No. 1 show on Netflix for one day, consecutively.

So, Shadow and Bone is looking better than that show. Based on recent renewals like Bridgerton and Ginny and Georgia, those shows were the top show on Netflix for about three weeks and in the Netflix Top 10 TV shows for more than two months post-release.

I think Shadow and Bone stacks up pretty well compared to those shows, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Is Shadow and Bone renewed for season 2?

As mentioned, Shadow and Bone has not been renewed for season 2 yet, but we’re still very hopeful. The show was a smash hit right after it was released. It’s been in the Netflix Top 10 for more than two weeks since its premiere, and I have to imagine it will remain there for the foreseeable future.

There aren’t many big Netflix shows coming to the streaming service until much later in May, so I would expect Shadow and Bone to remain in the Top 10 until at least June and maybe even beyond that.

When will Netflix renew Shadow and Bone for season 2?

Netflix doesn’t usually announce renewals for several weeks after a release. That gap seems even longer now that the pandemic has thrown production into a tailspin and caused massive delays, increased budgets, and more.

We also know that Netflix gathers its most important data in the first 28 days after the release. For big shows, like Stranger Things or Lucifer, Netflix already has a plan beyond the season. For a new show, it’s a much different process, or at least it seems like it is.

So, we should find out about Shadow and Bone season 2 on or after May 23. It’s possible we could have to wait until much later this summer to find out about the renewal as Netflix and the Shadow and Bone creative team hammers out all the season 2 details.

I’m going to guess we’ll see the Shadow and Bone season 2 renewal between May 23 and the end of July 2021. That’s my prediction at this point. We’ll let you know if that changes.

Shadow and Bone season 2 release date on Netflix

Well, that’s the other tricky thing to predict. Assuming the series is renewed for season 2 soon, we could see Shadow and Bone season 2 on Netflix sometime in 2022. Things will need to move quickly if the show is coming in the spring of 2022. I think that’s a long shot, given where things are with production and the pandemic.

But, a much more realistic release date for Shadow and Bone season 2 falls in the summer or fall of 2022.

This is a pretty big show with lots of tiny, crucial details and visual effects. That takes time to make all that happen!

I would expect a 16 to an 18-month gap between seasons of Shadow and Bone season 2, which sets up a summer or fall 2022 release date.
