5 best shows to watch on Netflix this weekend: April 24-25

The weekend is here, and it’s time to relax with some great entertainment choices of shows on Netflix.

I don’t know about you, but for me, Saturday and Sunday mornings are the time of the weekend where I get to watch what I want. No one else is awake, and I get to binge anything that tickles my fancy.

The Netflix Top 10 TV shows list is full of great shows, including some that have been on the list for a while. Be sure to check out The Circle, The Baker and the Beauty, The Serpent and Who Killed Sara? PJ Masks is also on the list with its newly released episodes.

Shadow and Bone

This is one of the most highly anticipated Netflix originals that catapulted to the number one spot on the Netflix Top 10 TV shows the day after its release. Shadow and Bone is a fantasy adventure based on Leigh Bardugo’s fantasy series, Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows.  

The adventure follows Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), who grew up in Ravka, and when she discovers she possesses a special power, her life changes forever. The world she lives in is known as the Grishaverse, where people’s power gives them the ability to manipulate the elements.

Additional cast members include Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young and Ben Barnes.

This is one you don’t want to miss in the fantasy genre.

Life in Color with David Attenborough

This three-part docuseries follows David Attenborough as he explores the animal kingdom’s use of color. Life in Color with David Attenborough uses new camera technology to look into animals and how they use color in very different ways.

This series is a fascinating look at animals and their use of color in a way we, as humans, have never seen before. The three episodes focus on a specific subject, “Seeing in Color,” “Hiding in Color,” and “Chasing Color.”

As with all of Attenborough’s projects, his voice alone gets you excited about whatever it is he is talking about. That is the same in this series.  The tone of his voice memorizes you as he explains the new technology that allows us to see things in the world of animals in a very different way.

This is a visually stunning series that is great for the whole family.

You is the Netflix original psychological thriller that fans have been anxiously awaiting for the third season. Netflix announced this week that fans will get see season 3 before year-end.

Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), a humble bookstore manager turned mega stalker, meets Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and his toxic obsession begins.

The first two seasons are currently available to stream on Netflix. This is an opportune time to rewatch to refresh your memory for the upcoming third season or begin watching if you haven’t already.

Fans love this one of the shows on Netflix for its twists and turns that leave you feeling anxious about what will happen next.

Zero

The Italian drama-comedy sci-fi Zero was released this week on Netflix. This series is based on the book Non ho mai avuto la mia età by Antonio Dikele Distefano. The series is the first-ever to focus on the Black Italian community.

Zero (Giuseppe Dave SEke) is a shy boy who processes the extraordinary power of becoming invisible. He is a modern hero who, upon discovering his power, gives up his dreams to help keep his poor neighborhood safe.

With the help of his newfound friends, Sharif (Haroun Fall), Inno (Madior Fall), Momo (Dylan Magon) and Sara (Daniela Scattolin), he will learn to harness his powers to help with the destruction of his neighborhood.

This superhero story is grounded in reality and is a great series that explores the Black Italian population, which hasn’t been the focus of any other Italian series in the past.

Ripper Street

Ripper Street is an older series that is definitely worth the watch. The series picks up six months after Jack the Ripper terrorized the Whitechapel District of London in 1889.

Starring Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn, Adam Rothenberg, and MyAnna Buring, this series follows the detectives and residents who are trying to get over the horrific events of the Ripper’s murders.

Rotten Tomatoes gives this series a 94%, and many critics have stated it is a severely underrated series. If a Victorian thriller series is something that sparks your interest, be sure to give this one a watch.
