Stranger Things season 4 is not coming to Netflix in May 2021

It looks like we’ve got a ways to go until we travel back to the Upside Down, friends. Unfortunately for fans of Stranger Things, we’re headed to the two-year mark since we got a new season, and there’s no confirmation we’ll be getting the next installment anytime soon. As the list of releases on Netflix for May 2021 was shared today, we can definitively tell you all that Stranger Things season 4 will not be coming next month.

We were all spoiled on Valentine’s Day of 2020 when the first official teaser for Stranger Things season 4 was released. We all had reason to believe we were only months out from the show’s return, but then, of course, COVID-19 safety concerns shut down production and delayed everything. By the fall of 2020, filming had started up again, but as we previously reported, star Gaten Matarazzo revealed that it’s been taking longer than usual.

So when will Stranger Things return for its highly anticipated next season? We do not have a concrete answer for you. Considering filming began back up again in late 2020, we initially expected to head back to Hawkins, Indiana at some point in 2021. But now, we’ve lost nearly all hope that the show will return this year.

According to star Finn Wolfhard, Stranger Things season 4 likely won’t debut until 2022. He told fans during a Fanmio meet-up that the upcoming installment “should be out sometime next year.” On top of that, Netflix released a shareholder letter on April 20, which revealed the streaming platform’s biggest releases for the rest of the year. While titles like Money Heist season 5 and You season 3 were included, Stranger Things season 4 was not.

It’s been all but confirmed that Stranger Things season 4 won’t come out in 2021, which is obviously so upsetting. Season 3 ended on such an emotional note with Hopper believed to be dead and Eleven moving away from Mike with the Byers, and fans are desperate to see what happens next. Of course, we know that Hopper is really alive (thank goodness!), so there’s no doubt season 4 will be one for the books.
