Did Netflix just confirm Ozark season 4 isn’t coming in 2021?

It’s been over a year now since the most recent season of Ozark debuted on Netflix, and unfortunately, it looks like we might have to wait a lot longer to see the next installment. The good news is that Ozark season 4 is definitely happening, but the bad news is they’re still filming. And with a new tidbit of information we just got today, we aren’t holding our breath for it to be released this year.

If you haven’t been keeping up with the award-winning show, Ozark first came out on Netflix back in 2017, starring Jason Bateman as Marty Byrde, Laura Linney as Wendy Byrde, and Julia Garner as Ruth Langmore. The first season follows the Byrde family as they abruptly pick up their lives and move out to the Ozarks in Missouri after a money-laundering deal goes south.

Soon after landing on their feet again, the Byrdes are pretty quick to get back into the business, working with local drug dealers, the drug cartel, and even the Mafia.

Ozark season 3 was met with tons of praise, and the show received four nominations at this year’s Golden Globes. At the Emmy Awards in late 2020, Garner took home the prize for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her amazing performance as the one and only Ruth.

If you’ve seen Ozark, you know it’s certainly a great watch worth getting hooked on, and fans are desperate to find out when the fourth installment, which will mark the show’s last, will be released.

Is Ozark season 4 coming in 2021?

Unfortunately, it looks like there’s a slim chance Ozark season 4 will come out this year. Netflix just published a shareholder letter on April 20, which revealed a handful of big titles coming to the platform in 2021. They mention the return of shows like Sex Education, The Witcher, Money Heist, and You, but noticeably leave out Ozark. Here’s what the letter says:

"We anticipate paid membership growth will re-accelerate in the second half of 2021 as we ramp into a very strong back half slate with the return of big hits like Sex Education, The Witcher, La Casa de Papel (aka Money Heist), and You, as well as an exciting array of original films including the finale to The Kissing Booth trilogy and large scale, star-driven features like Red Notice (starring Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds) and Don’t Look Up (with an all-star cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Timothée Chalamet, and Meryl Streep)."

With a show as huge as this one, you’d think Ozark season 4 would be included in Netflix’s lineup for the rest of the year if it was going to be released in 2021. By the looks of it, the final season could very well be seeing a 2022 release date. As we mentioned earlier, they’re not done filming, plus this season is set to have more episodes than the previous one.

Considering the fact that Ozark season 4 will be broken up into two parts, however, I’m confused as to why they would need to film all of it before releasing the first half. Perhaps since this is the final installment, they’re really working harder than ever to give us an awesome storyline and performances.

In any case, I just hope to see Ozark return sooner than later! As always, we’ll keep you updated with any new information that might come out.
