The Zookeeper’s Wife will be released on Netflix on Friday, April 16, 2021. The film was originally released in 2017, and if you didn’t get to see it then, be sure to add this one to your queue.

This film is based on Jan and Antonina Zabinski’s true story, who used their zoo, located in Warsaw, to rescue hundreds of Polish Jews in World War II.

Based on a book of the same name written by Diane Ackerman, the movie follows Jan (Johan Heldenbergh) and Antonina (Jessica Chastain) as she houses Jews in her zoo.

When the Nazis invaded Poland in 1939, the Zabinskis are forced to report to the Reich’s zoologist Lutz Heck (Daniel Bruhl). He was the professional rival of Antonina as he was the head of the Berlin Zoo.

What time is The Zookeepers Wife available on Netflix?

The Zookeeper’s Wife will be available to stream at 12:01 am PT on April 16. This might be a difficult time of day to digest a film with this heavy of a story. But, be sure to watch this one as it is a deeply moving film.

The Zabinskis knew they were risking their lives for a much bigger purpose. They hid people in tunnels, cages and any other place they could to ensure their survival. This was compounded by the fact that the Nazis were also using the zoo grounds as an armory.

The film also stars Michael McElhatton, Iddo Goldberg, Erfat Dor, Shira Haas, Val Maloku and Timothy Radford. Angela Workman wrote the screenplay, and the film was directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider). Critics gave harsh reviews, but audiences loved the film.

It is astonishing that of the 300 Jewish people they housed, two were captured and killed by the Nazis.

Be sure to watch The Zookeeper’s Wife on Netflix on April 16.
