Shadow and Bone cast: Who is in the Netflix show?

The Shadow and Bone cast doesn’t have a lot of big names or familiar faces to many TV and movie fans, but you’ll get to know the cast very soon!

Shadow and Bone premieres on Netflix on April 23, 2021. The Netflix original series is based on the Grishaverse books and characters by Leigh Bardugo.

Let’s get to know the Shadow and Bone cast!

Who plays General Kirigan in Shadow and Bone?

Ben Barnes, best known for roles in Marvel’s The Punisher, Westworld, and the Chronicles of Narnia movies, plays General Kirigan. He’s the leader of the Second Army of Ravka, which is made up by Grisha, who are people with special abilities.

General Kirigan takes a special interest in the show’s lead, Alina Starkov because of Alina’s powers.

Who plays Alina in Shadow and Bone?

Speaking of Alina Starkov, the character is played by Jessie Mei Li in the Netflix original series. Alina is a mapmaker in the First Army of Ravka. Alina was raised in an orphanage after her parents died, so she doesn’t have much family, but she does have her best friend Mal.

Mei Li hasn’t starred in any major movies or shows, but we have to imagine this role is going to launch the talented actress into superstardom.

Who plays Mal in Shadow and Bone?

As mentioned, Mal is Alina’s best friend in the series. His full name is Malyen Oretsev, and the character is played by Archie Renaux. Like Alina, Mal is also part of the Ravka’s First Army, but instead of a cartographer, he’s a soldier.

We haven’t seen Renaux in many movies and shows, aside from Amazon’s Hanna and BBC’s Gold Digger. But, we’ll be seeing Renaux a lot more! In addition to Shadow and Bone, Renaux starred in Voyagers, which was just released. He’ll also be in Morbius, which premieres in 2022 and will be coming to Netflix.

Who plays Kaz Brekker in Shadow and Bone?

Kaz Brekker, leader of the Dregs, is played by Freddy Carter, who most recently starred in Pennyworth, along with the Netflix show Free Rein. 

It doesn’t appear Carter has booked anything for after Shadow and Bone, but that’ll definitely change soon.

Who plays Inej in Shadow and Bone?

Inej is my favorite character from the Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom books by Leigh Bardugo.

In Shadow and Bone, Inej is played by Amita Suman. In the series, Inej teams with Kaz and Jesper on a dangerous mission outside of Ketterdam.

Prior to Shadow and Bone, Suman starred in The CW’s The Outpost and also appeared in an episode of Doctor Who.

Who plays Jesper in Shadow and Bone?

Jesper Fahey is the lovable gunslinger from Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Bardugo. Jesper’s a close second to being my favorite character in the books, right behind Inej.

In Shadow and Bone, Jesper is played by Kit Young. I haven’t seen Young in anything other than Shadow and Bone, but we’ll all be seeing the Shadow and Bone star again soon. Young stars in The Origin and then the new Netflix movie, The School for Good and Evil. 

Who plays Zoya in Shadow and Bone?

Zoya Nazyalensky is a squaller in Ravka’s Second Army. Sujaya Dasgupta stars as Zoya in the Netflix original series.

Dasgupta was recently featured in the hit series I May Destroy You. 

Who plays Nina in Shadow and Bone?

Nina Zenik is a Grisha, and she’s played by Danielle Galligan in Shadow and Bone. Galligan has been in a lot of shows and movies, including the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. In the series, Galligan played Sarra.

Who plays Matthais in Shadow and Bone?

Calahan Skogman stars as Matthias in Shadow and Bone. Unlike many of the main characters in the series, Matthais is not Ravkan. He’s from Fjerda, which is a country at war with Ravka.

Like many of the main cast, Skogman doesn’t have many film or TV credits to his name. That’ll change very soon.

Who plays Genya in Shadow and Bone?

Genya Safin is played by Daisy Head in the series. Genya is a Tailor and lives at the Little Palace in Ravka.

Head has way more credits than many of the main cast of Shadow and Bone. Head recently starred in Wrong Turn, Harlots, and Girlfriends. 

Who plays Nadia in Shadow and Bone?

Nadia Zhabin is played by Gabrielle Brooks in the series. While Brooks doesn’t have many film and TV credits to her name, Brooks has done a bunch of theatrical productions, including The Wizard of Oz. 

Who plays Baghra in Shadow and Bone?

One of the most recognizable stars of Shadow and Bone is Zoë Wanamaker, who is best known for so many projects, including Edge of Darkness, the Harry Potter movies, My Family, and more.

Wanamaker stars as Baghra in the series.

Who plays Ivan in Shadow and Bone?

Ivan is played by Simon Sears in Shadow and Bone. 

Who plays The Apparat in Shadow and Bone?

Kevin Eldon plays The Apparat in Shadow and Bone. Eldon is most famous for his comedic work in British shows, like It’s Kevin, Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge, and more. Eldon has been in a ton of shows and movies.

Who plays Fedyor in Shadow and Bone?

In Shadow and Bone, Fedyor is a Grisha played by Julian Kostov. He’s been in several popular shows, including Berlin Station, Flack, A Discovery of Witches, and more.

Who plays David in Shadow and Bone?

Luke Pasqualino stars as David, a Grisha, in Shadow and Bone. Pasqualino is one of the cast members who has been in the most shows and movies. You might recognize him from Skins, The Musketeers, Snowpiercer, and more.

Who plays The Darkling in Shadow and Bone?
