Showrunner Eric Heisserer revealed the change on Twitter back in 2019, explaining that it was a decision he and Bardugo made, adding, “Multiple writers in the room are mixed race, and their voices help shape Alina’s.” This announcement was shared prior to Jessie Mei Li being cast.
