What is The Soul about?

Amongst Netflix’s new releases this month are plenty of films from other countries. The Taiwanese film The Soul is coming next week and we are counting down the days until we can watch it!

Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming film and why you should add it to your Netflix watchlist when it premieres April 14.

What is The Soul about?

The Soul is based on the sci-fi novel Soul Transfer, written by Jiang Bo in 2012.

The book was incredibly popular and eventually inspired director Cheng Wei-Hao to adapt the publication into a movie.

The Soul is about a married couple who are determined to uncover the truth behind weird happenings in their community. The couple suspects occult practices to be the reasons behind the chaos, but there isn’t enough proof for this to be believed.

Determined to prove that their assumption is true, the pair sets off to gather evidence; however, what they find is beyond what they could ever imagine.

Here is the official synopsis for the film from Netflix:

"While investigating the death of a businessman, a prosecutor and his wife uncover occult secrets as they face their own life-and-death dilemma."

The Soul, also known as Ji hun, was released in Taiwan on January 15th, 2021, and has gathered some pretty great attention. It currently has a score of 7.0 out of 10 on IMDb, with nothing but high praise from its reviewers.

One reviewer on IMDb states that The Soul is a “one-of-a-kind [Taiwanese] sci-fi that sets itself apart by combining [Taiwanese] tradition, belief, science, love, and crime,” rating the film an 8 out of 10.

With an awesome review like that, the film certainly sounds like a must-watch.
