Is Shrek on Netflix?
By Sabrina Reed
When people think of classic animated movies, they’re often thinking of Disney films. Most of us have watched princesses fight for their place in the world or dalmatians foil the plans of Cruella, a woman determined to make them into a fur coat. But there are some animated classics that didn’t come from Disney’s storied halls and one of them is the Dreamworks film Shrek.
The movie became a franchise centered around an ogre who is as layered as an onion, his donkey companion, and the princess whose curse not only shapes her love story but redefines her definition of beauty in herself and others.
Shrek does all this whilst being a rollicking comedy with innuendos that likely fly over the heads of youngins but have adults bursting out in laughter. Filled to the brim with well-loved musical hits, oddball relationships, and memorable characters, it’s no wonder the movie has been cemented in pop culture as a classic.
May 18, 2021 will mark the 20th anniversary of Shrek‘s premiere in theaters. Here’s where you can stream the film and its sequels if you’re looking to marathon the whole four-part film series.
Where to stream Shrek
Unfortunately, for US residents, Shrek isn’t available on Netflix. Fans can stream the musical adaptation of the film on the platform along with the franchise’s short story collections, Shrek’s Swamp Stories and Spooky Stories, and the spin-off film Puss in Boots. UK Netflix, however, has both Shrek and its sequel available to stream.
To stream the first two films in the franchise in the US, you’ll need a Hulu subscription. The first movie is also available in Spanish on the streamer. As for the third and fourth films in the franchise, they can be rented through Amazon Prime Video for $3.99.
