Shelley Conn and Calam Lynch join the Bridgerton season 2 cast
By Renee Hansen
Bridgerton fans are anxiously awaiting news that filming has started for the second season of the Netflix original series. Sadly, we don’t have a report on filming just yet, but there has been news of costumes and wigs being prepared for the season, as well as additional cast members being added.
Deadline has reported that the most recent additions to the cast of Bridgerton season 2 are Shelly Conn (Liar) and Calam Lynch (Benediction). They are set to join newcomer Simone Ashley, who will play Kate Sharma, the love interest of Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey). Charithra Chandran will play Kate’s sister Edwina, and Rupert Young has been cast as a series-only character, Jack.
Shelly Conn will play Kate and Edwina’s mother, Mary, and Calam Lynch has been cast as Theo Sharpe, a printer’s assistant.
It is fantastic news to have additional cast members for Bridgerton season 2, especially since it was recently announced that Rege-Jean Page would not reprise his role as the Duke of Hastings. Sadly we won’t see the handsome duke gracing our screens, but Daphne Bridgerton (Pheobe Dynevor) is set to be in the second season as she helps her brother Anthony during the upcoming social season.
Who will be the focus of Bridgerton season 2?
The second season will focus on the book titled The Viscount Who Loved Me, following Anthony’s story. But similar to season one, where the focus was on Daphne, we will still see storylines for the other siblings.
In the book, Anthony marries into a family named Scheffield, but the series, which has given the characters more diversity, has changed the family name to Sharma, who are of Indian descent. Kate and her family are new arrivals to London where her mother Mary had once been embroiled in a scandal. In the Regency Era, the people of the town love a good controversy, and Mary’s is sure to rear its head in this season.
Fans are eager to see Bridgerton season 2, as the first opened up the Regency world to our screens. And this isn’t your ordinary Regency; this one is full of diversity and unconventional ways, making it even better.
Bridgerton season 2 does not have a release date yet, but we’re excited to see these newly-announced cast members in new roles.
