Is Jesus Christ Superstar on Netflix?

When one thinks of Broadway musicals, it’s hard not to immediately think of Andrew Loyd Webber who is responsible for creating and co-creating some of the greatest Broadway shows of all time. The Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Cats are among the many incredible musicals he’s had a hand in bring to the stage as is another longtime favorite: Jesus Christ Superstar.

Like many of Webber’s musicals, Jesus Christ Superstar has been adapted several times over the years including in the 1973 film adaptation starring Ted Neeley.

Much like the musical that inspired it, the 1973 film centered around the last days of Jesus Christ as told through the perspective of Judas Iscariot (played in the film by Carl Anderson). While there have been many adaptations, the film remains one of the most beloved iterations of the title but is it available to stream on Netflix?

It’s unclear why the film isn’t available to stream on Netflix, but it is likely a matter of the rights to the film being more complicated due to the film’s music — as there aren’t a large number of classic musicals streaming on Netflix.
