The Witcher season 2 wraps production as Netflix confirms 2021 release
By Cody Schultz
The Witcher season 2 might not be coming in April 2021, but it seems fans of the Henry Cavill led fantasy series can rest assured in knowing the season will arrive on Netflix before the year comes to an end!
After an extensive shoot that unfolded across the UK, Netflix confirmed on April 2 that principal photography on the upcoming second season of its global hit has wrapped following a 58-day shoot.
With filming on the season finally complete, the series will next enter the post-production stage of the process which tends to be a more lengthy process as it’s during this stage of the process in which special effects and all the magic that helps bring the fantasy world to life come together. Typically, post-production on Netflix shows takes several months to complete which always adds a level of mystery to predicting a show’s release date.
While post-production on some shows can be complete in a fairly quick amount of time, other more cinematic series such as The Witcher tend to take a bit more time — and understandably so. The good news; however, is Netflix seems confident the process will be complete in time for The Witcher season 2 to release sometime this year.
The Witcher season 2 release date
Although no official release date has been set for The Witcher season 2, Netflix has confirmed season 2 is coming in 2021. Upon completion of season 2’s principal photography, Netflix released an official statement confirming the wrap on filming in which the streamer revealed that The Witcher season 2 is coming in 2021.
At this time, Netflix has not provided any further clarification on when exactly The Witcher season 2 will release; however, it’s expected the second season will arrive sometime in the fourth quarter of 2021 with a December 2021 release date most likely.
As fans will recall, Netflix opted to release the first season of The Witcher back in December 2019 with a Dec. 20 release date timed to the Christmas holiday. Should Netflix follow a similar release plan for season 2, it seems possible we could see season 2 drop this holiday season perhaps on Friday, Dec. 17 or even on Christmas Eve 2021.
Once an official release date is confirmed, we’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, we can at least take comfort in knowing The Witcher season 2 will not be delayed and is coming sometime in 2021!
