Regé-Jean Page will not appear in Bridgerton season 2
We come bearing sad news, Bridgerton fans.
As we all await any and all updates on Bridgerton season 2, a very unfortunate announcement has just been made via Twitter. According to the Netflix show’s official Twitter page, Simon Bassett (Regé-Jean Page) will not appear in the next installment. As a major heartthrob both on and offscreen, fans of the romantic series are heartbroken to hear this.
In case you haven’t checked out Bridgerton season 1 yet, the show follows the lives of a handful of families living in 1800s London. Focusing on class and gender, viewers get to see the pressures young women have to find a husband, and how badly families fight for their sons and daughters to find a perfect match. Phoebe Dynevor plays the protagonist, Daphne Bridgerton, and her love interest is the Duke, Simon Bassett. Their love story is the central plot of the series, and their steamy love scenes are not ones to miss.
The recent update on Bridgerton season 2 also seemingly confirms that Dynevor will continue to be part of the show in the upcoming episodes, with the tweet noting:
"Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than readers may be able to bear."

Why won’t Regé-Jean Page be in Bridgerton season 2?
The only thing the tweet above doesn’t mention is the reason why Regé-Jean Page won’t be in Bridgerton season 2. Although the next installment is expected to follow a different book in the Julia Quinn series and therefore focus on new characters, we’d still expect to see Simon Bassett appear in some capacity. Needless to say, there’s a want from fans for it.
At the same time, Regé-Jean Page is becoming a household name at this point. He’s already hosted Saturday Night Live, has won an NAACP Image Award, and is slated to star in a new Russo Brothers movie for Netflix, titled The Gray Man. It had also been rumored earlier this year that the 31-year-old actor could be playing the next James Bond. That’s just gossip for now, though.
In any case, we’re extremely sad this handsome and talented actor won’t be part of Bridgerton season 2. Who do you hope will become the next heartthrob of the series?
