What is Tale of the Nine Tailed about?
Tale of the Nine Tailed aired in 2020 on the South Korean entertainment network tvN. It tells the classic story of a kumiho, which based on Korean mythology is a creature that can transform and shape-shift into different things in order to get what they need. In many cases, they turn into a beautiful seductress to kill men. The word “kumiho” translates into “nine-tailed fox.”
Fans of the HBO show Lovecraft Country will remember that Jamie Chung’s character Ji-Ah is a kumiho, who transforms into a woman on the quest to collect 100 souls.
In Tale of the Nine Tailed, a man named Lee Yeon is the kumiho. He wants to give up his powers in order to reincarnate the one he loves, a woman named Ah-eum. There are 16 episodes in the first season, and according to the site Clozette, a spinoff called The Untold Story Of The Tale Of The Nine-Tailed is in the works.
