As an avid Netflix user, you might’ve noticed that there are tons of awesome foreign language films and shows on the platform. One example is the South Korean content they have available to stream, including sappy series like Love Alarm and Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce), as well as gripping dramas such as The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion and High Society. Although the streaming service certainly doesn’t have everything, they do have a great lineup of k-dramas.

But what about the k-drama series Tale of the Nine Tailed? Let’s get into what the show is about.

What is Tale of the Nine Tailed about?

Tale of the Nine Tailed aired in 2020 on the South Korean entertainment network tvN. It tells the classic story of a kumiho, which based on Korean mythology is a creature that can transform and shape-shift into different things in order to get what they need. In many cases, they turn into a beautiful seductress to kill men. The word “kumiho” translates into “nine-tailed fox.”

Fans of the HBO show Lovecraft Country will remember that Jamie Chung’s character Ji-Ah is a kumiho, who transforms into a woman on the quest to collect 100 souls.

In Tale of the Nine Tailed, a man named Lee Yeon is the kumiho. He wants to give up his powers in order to reincarnate the one he loves, a woman named Ah-eum. There are 16 episodes in the first season, and according to the site Clozette, a spinoff called The Untold Story Of The Tale Of The Nine-Tailed is in the works.
