Netflix is packed to the brim with plenty of stories inspired by true events, and The Serpent looks to be another great addition to an already impressive lineup, leaving many people to ponder what exactly the crime series is actually about.

Whether it’s enthralling docuseries like Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer or an Oscar-winning flick based on actual events like Spotlight, the streaming network never fails to keep its lineup stacked with exciting titles for its subscribers. But when it comes to TV shows, it’s no mystery that Netflix has a treasure trove of choices for fans of the genre to obsess over.

Netflix has plenty of game-changing crime drama shows to enjoy like Mindhunter, Narcos: Mexico, Ozark, and many more. The Serpent has all the making of becoming another must-watch endeavor for subscribers.

BBC announced the project in July 2019 and debuted on BBC One on January 1, 2021. Since then, subscribers on Netflix have been eager to find out more about the series that looks to another instantly riveting hit on the popular streaming service.

What is Netflix’s The Serpent about?

The Serpent is based on the crimes of a serial killer named Charles Sohbraj. Sobrahj was a notorious murderer, thief, and what some would consider being a seductive master of disguise that hid in the shadows murdering many young tourists during the mid-’70s on Asia’s infamous hippie trail.

The eight-part limited series is a co-production between Netflix and BBC One and was shot in Hertfordshire, England, and on location in Thailand. Headling this exciting order is Golden Globe-nominated actor from The Mauritanian Tahar Rahim, who can also be seen in Netflix’s The Eddy, and Dr. Who star Jenna Coleman.

The show is getting solid reviews from critics and has been described by Decider as a pleasant mix of Narcos meets Catch Me if You Can.
