Fans of Anthony Mackie are no doubt getting fully invested in Marvel’s Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which just premiered its first episode on Friday, March 19. But for those who would like to explore the 42-year-old’s acting resume on other platforms than Disney Plus, you’re in luck. The Independent Spirit Awards nominee has quite a handful of great titles to choose from.

Take the 2013 movie The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete, for instance. Alongside Anthony Mackie, the movie stars Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, Grammy nominee Jordin Sparks, fellow Marvel actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Golden Globe winner Jeffrey Wright. Sheesh! Talk about a talented and star-studded cast. In case you’re unfamiliar with this film, here’s the synopsis.

What is The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete about?

The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete is a drama that follows two children, Mister (Skylan Brooks) and Pete (Ethan Dizon), one summer in New York City. The two kids are left to figure life out on their own after Mister’s mom is taken away by the police. With no idea when she’s coming back, Mister attempts to look after Pete along with himself, with the ultimate goal of becoming a child actor and making it in the real world. Of course, there are many bumps along the way in this coming-of-age story.

The movie is helmed by George Tillman Jr., who you might know for directing films like Notorious (2009) and The Hate U Give (2018).
