What is Sky Rojo on Netflix about?

If you’re looking for a high octane drama to satisfy your need for speed in the fast-paced world of the criminal underbelly then Netflix‘s Sky Rojo may just be the show for you.

Created by Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato–the creators of Money Heist—Sky Rojo is an 8 episode action-packed crime thriller.

Sky Rojo will be available to stream Friday, March 19.

What is Sky Rojo about?

Pina and Lobato shared their thoughts on the series, what it is, and why it’s important, via Netflix press release.

"We wanted Sky Rojo to have the same frenetic action as always, but to use that 25-minute runtime to underline the dynamic nature of the plot: the getaway, the race for survival. The third act of a movie or an episode is where all the energy converges to produce the most vibrant explosion of all the conflicts that are being narrated. What we set out to do was to make a constant third act, to funnel our entire story through that frenzied energy."

But while the series is certain to be a pedal to the metal, non-stop roller-coaster of a ride, it’s also about friendship, specifically the bond formed between the three leads as they fight for their survival. This is a female-fronted action series, and they’re the ones in the driver’s seat.

The Spanish language original drops viewers into the lives of Coral (Verónica Sánchez ), Gina (Yany Prado), and Wendy (Lali Espósito)–three prostitutes making a living at Las Novias club as best they can despite the horrid clientele.

One night the three women get into a fight with their pimp Romeo (Asier Etxeandia) resulting in him bleeding out on the floor and them running for their lives. Now, in order to secure their freedom, the trio not only have to outrun his henchmen Moisés (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) and Christian (Enric Auquer) but they also have to flip the script on them.

You have two choices in life. You can either be a hare or a fox. This trio chooses to be foxes. Come what may they have each other, and they’re stronger for it. When your life and your freedom are at stake, anything is fair game.
